If you have never heard of Jamelia, hopefully you soon will. Jamelia has been hailed as the perfect R&B singer by her A&R man, Lloyd Brown. At her meeting with him, he was so astonished by her vocal ability that he apparently offered her a deal on the spot. That was three years ago. Excuse me for being cynical, but if someone is a perfect singer why would it take three years to complete an album? Jamelia's first single, which was a feeler (a track to test the water) was "So High", which was put out on the Capitol label, followed by a single called " I Do" which was released on the Rhythm Series label. Will someone please tell me what the hell is going on? Why was the fist single released on one label and the next, released on another? Anyway, the single "I Do " was released on July 19th 1999 and went straight into the top 40 and it seems that everyone is happy, because it was " a major feat for a relatively unknown artist". I personally hold my judgment. I will be sitting here waiting and watching the progress of Jamelia. Will they invest the time, money and energy required in order to create a real artist? Will they begin to understand that an artist needs time - time to get a following.... time to learn their craft and for someone as young as Jamelia, time to find out who she really is? She also needs time to begin to understand what the word longevity actually means or doesn't mean. |
