AYIA NAPA 2001

Well as summer comes to an end its time to reflect over the highlights of the year! For me it was returning to my favourite country CYRPRUS-AYIA NAPA. This was my 3rd year out there so I knew what to expect! Lots of drinks, lots of sun, lots of music and lots of **** (you can use your imagination as to what else was out there).

Right, here goes. DJ LAZY’S Highs and Lows of Ayia Napa.
My favourite night had to have been the Heartless Crew @ the Ice Club. These lot (as per usual) smashed it! when I say SMASHED IT! I mean literally. The atmosphere was something I haven’t experienced in ages. Wicked mixing combined with some wicked MCing goes hand in hand and the Heartless know how to supply what the raver's needed. No bad attitudes anywhere in the club at all, everyone had gone for the one thing, a true raver's night! They even dropped some r&b and even a bit of ragga! It was a proper rave, how it should always be! How long b4 these lot get on the legal airwaves I don’t know but the sooner the better, cos this is what garage needs right now, someone to take it forward and to show how you’re supposed to rave! Big it Heartless!
Unfortunately, and I hate the fact that I’m writing about the worst night whilst I was on holiday. The worst night was a tie this year, between DJ EZ (who is without a doubt my favourite DJ) and the much hyped So Solid crew.

With DJ EZ I knew that there’s was gonna be sum attitude and bad vibes, but I was hoping that his nang mixing and dark heavy tunes would get me through. But that is why you get the attitude when EZ’s playing, cos of his rude boy style. But I survived and was still amazed at the skill the man posses.

Now, So Solid. All I’ve heard for the past year is ‘So solid this’ an ‘So solid that’ so, considering I’d never seen them live I was looking forward to actually seeing them, and I use ‘them’ literally cos they had the whole crew down there. You could tell that as soon as u walked in the club it was gonna be a dodgy night. Everyone was looking vex and no one was even dancing (because the music was too heavy). Even the MC’s were moaning that there was too much attitude, with that I made my exit. Id stayed for only half an hour b4 everyone’s moody looks pissed me off, you’re on holiday, no need for the attitude and if that’s all they have to offer, then I don’t rate them at all.
Apart from those two nights, it was absolutely wicked this year. The music was the best clubbing you'll ever do in your life and it’s without a doubt an experience you’ll never forget!

Lazy’s top 3 tunes of Ayia Napa 2001:

Cleptomaniacs- All I do

Maxee-When I look into your eyes

Jahiem-Just in case

My favourite bar was of course the famous Marinella’s bar, wicked every year. Since my favourite club was closed this year the competition was between Castle club and Abyss. Both with massive arenas and open-air rooms, damn! It’s hard to choose, but it has to go to Abyss, simply because I love the club but you can only appreciate this if you go.
With every year I go in the hope it will beat the famous year of 99. The year of 2001 did all right, enough to get me back next year! To anyone who hasn’t been yet, make sure you do cos its something you have to experience. Don’t just read the hype of Ayia Napa, go out there and club it up and decide if it’s worth going on about like everyone else!

Peace

LAZY
