LINA

Phatmag: Over here they just think it they don't do it.

Lina: You know what that's what my aunt said she said that the reason why they go crazy is because they wish they could do that. You know we were just talking about it, about why the battle of the sexes is going on and that's why I wrote the song "Enemy"

Phatmag: I like that song that's of the three main songs that I really like.

Lina: See I started out doing stuff like "player no more" because watching TV and listening to girls and guys go back and forth and the girls are like what kind of car have you got?, you gotta pay my bills, you gotta do this for me and I don't need you, I buy your draws, just really boasting about things that you should want to do for a person in a relationship. At first I started out with the guys cause you know it was so strong in hip hop you know she's a chicken head and you aint getting nothing from me I just wanna hit it and you know that kinda thing so I was like why do we have this crazy mentality.

Phatmag: So this was a backlash?

Lina: Yeah, well no, you see the guys are trying to be like what they see on TV so I think that they started suppressing their feelings but I started out thinking why are guys being so rude I'm not that kinda girl you ain't gotta have a car you can ride a bike or walk or whatever, cause I've been raised to think you know you build with a person and it's just by some material thing that I have the conect. I can never be a kept women by some old man who got money cause if I ain't feeling him I'm not. So at first I was offended by that, then after listening to a lot of the girl stars saying Bill Bills Bills living in L.A where oh my god girls would be like "girl you gotta go talk to him he's driving a Mercedes" and I would be like " but I'm not feeling it". So then I put myself in a mans shoes with 'Enemy' and I started feeling so sad I was like wow so this is what men go through they have to have this and they have to have that to feel validated so I started to realise that that must really be pressure and so I wrote that song saying you know talk to the person your with that's what I want and I don't know about anybody else but a lot of my friends are good women and they are not materialistic I actually don't consider the ones who are materialistic as friends they are more like associates I can go out with them but I can never really go out with them for too long.

Phatmag: How did you come up with your sound? was it something that was in you or was it something that the producer done?

Lina: I had some songs that I was trying to do myself, I wasn't that good at producing I could play the piano but I would never play in public, and so I had these songs where I had Billy Holiday, she has a lot of songs where there's just instrumentals and then she starts singing way late in her songs so I would like sample some of that and then put a wack beat to that, the vocal part would be really cool the vocals would be all up loud and the beat would be really low so the producer that I met w were doing r'n'b and pop and I had this pre-production studio a DV8 the little one, so he came and started pressing buttons ad going through my music he found some songs and he was like why don't you do this I like our voice like this.
