Tuff ‘enuff’ interview…

Karl ‘Tuff Enuff’ Brown has got to be one of the leading, original UK Garage heavyweight veterans. Karl helped to set the pace for this growing genre of music, as one half of the successful ‘TUFF JAM’ production team.

Karl is undoubtedly one of the most untouchable, quality garage dj’/producers’ around and has stood his ground for almost a decade. He is a prime example of what UK Garage should represent and continues to make some of the best quality garage around.

Since the recent demise of ‘TUFF JAMS’, I thought it would be a good idea to catch up with Karl and find out just what he’s getting up to…

I met him for a drink at a rather trendy Brazilian café in East London (his home town)…ooo er!!! To catch up with him for a chat. He was very welcoming, sincere, humble and lovely to talk to, just as I expected. I felt so cosy, he’s lucky that I ran out of questions and we’re not still sitting there chatting all now, til’ we mout’ dry…and mek every body sen’ out search partee fi ‘im…!!!

Phatmag: What have you been working on over the past 12 months Karl?

Karl: I’ve been working on some new ideas with the likes of Kele Le Rock, Vincent J Alvis (M-dubs ‘Body killing’ fame…) Jocelyn Brown and Asylam Boys

Both Kele’s and Vincent’s projects were done with my good friend Todd Edwards. We produced about 5 tracks together…whilst he was here, in the UK.

I’m also working with ‘Jacquee Bennett’ and planning on a couple of projects with ‘Xavier’, remember the vocalist on the classic tracks ‘Tumbling down’ and ‘Just gets better’…

Phatmag: When can we hope to hear some of the stuff you’ve been working on then?

Karl: Well, the track with Jocelyn will hopefully be within the next couple of weeks. At the moment, we’re just sorting out contracts and stuff with her management and then we should get the ball rolling.
